This festival is all about developing your voice -- we want to hear your unique insights on Orthodoxy. Please take some time to explore the resources available here, and contact Julie Wynn with questions. We are happy to mentor you as much as you like! Let us know if there's anything you need.

Elementary Division Information

This year we are offering an elementary division for Transfiguration's St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival. This is not a judged portion to the festival. The purpose of the Elementary Division is to offer our 4th, 5th, and 6th grade children the opportunity to express their feelings about their Faith and Church while gaining confidence and self-esteem. In addition, it provides an incentive to the children for later participation in the Junior and Senior Divisions.

Please assist your child(ren) in choosing a topic (topics are listed below). You can discuss the topic with your child, review their papers for grammar, and help them practice their speech. The speech only needs to be 30 seconds to 2 minutes long.

The Oratorical Festival will be held in the afternoon of Sunday, January 28. The Elementary division will be presented while the judges are deliberating the Junior and Senior speeches.

When you register, please select the Elementary division and then proceed to the 3rd page to select the topic number. The deadline to sign up is January 17.

 Topics:

1. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me..." What does this mean to you?

 2. Icons are our windows to Heaven, they seek to draw us to Christ and His holy saints. What is your favorite icon?

 3. We receive Holy Communion each Sunday at Liturgy. How would you explain Holy Communion to a friend who is not Orthodox?

 4. The Theotokos, the Mother of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ is also the mother to all Christians. How is the Theotokos a mother to you?

If you have any questions, please contact me. I'll be away during the month of December, but I'll be available via email or my cell phone. In Christ's love, Julie Wynn txwynn at gmail dot com
